Divorce & Real Estate

Once upon a time, a young man and a young woman fell in love. Like any average couple, they set their sights on the future, bought a house, built a pool and had several children. Many years and arguments later, infidelity became an issue, and their relationship was torn apart. The young couple with four kids was faced with a gruesome separation and a nasty, child custody battle that resulted in the loss of property, damage to their credit, depletion of their savings and damage to their health.

This is a very real story with a very real ending, one that I covered in detail during my presentation at the NADP of Coral Gables luncheon yesterday. As this story and many like it reveal, divorce/separation is not only an emotional and psychological nightmare; it is also a physical and financial threat. It is a heavy burden to bear alone, which is why individuals should seek expert counsel to help them make sound decisions with respect to their circumstances, including their marital assets.

As a member of the National Association of Divorce Professionals, I am often granted the opportunity to speak in front of other industry experts to help them help their clients. Just yesterday, I was happy to cover an array of topics that included legal, financial and credit-related issues couples face when they’re going through divorce, how to properly address the division and disposition of marital assets and how to manage expectations throughout the entire process. All I can say now is that I feel blessed to be in a position to help!
